The Fan is an adaptive bus stop, which forms itself depending on the human presence. The final constructed model is in a 1:3 scale that operates guided from a simple computer program. The project is part of a series of kinetic structures, such as the Pop-up House and the Urban Venetian Blind, whose syntactic elements, being intelligent, interact with the environment and re-erect themselves under changing conditions. This hands-on research on adaptive architecture is accompanied by the Intelligent Kinetic Systems theoretical research examining the integration of Robotics, Ubiquitous Computing, and Intelligence in spatial structures and machines.
