The Wit

Located in the central Loop, in Chicago’s theater district, the 298-guest-room Wit is a location-centric boutique hotel belonging to the Doubletree Hotel chain. A slashing chartreuse zigzag, “the lightning bolt” fronts Wit across the 27-story glass façade. The small, 9,500-square-foot corner site is filled to its limits by the 250,000-square-foot building of a very modest budget. The Wit touts eco-friendly features that include heat pumps, low-E glazing, and dual-flush toilets. Lighting was designed to beat industry standards by 30 percent, with expected annual savings of 1.24 million kWh. Completed: 2009. Project credits: Koo and Associates
